Dark

09/07/2013

I'm slowly but surely crossing over to the dark side {when it comes to interiors mind.} I cannot get enough of the dark hues, the contrasts, the mood it evokes. Perhaps it is an Abigail Ahern fad - perhaps it is a fad, perhaps it is here to stay. What's your opinion on this - dark is the new black, or white for me please. Here in the Melbourne home of Lisa & Mark Poulier, they have managed to have a fantastic coherent mix of the dark and stormy colours, and the more tranquil ones for the bedrooms and lounge areas. Simply FAB -  and I adore it.

  1. Absolutely love, love, love (!!!) this home! The details are amazing. The black door, matt walls, and the fact that they have my daybed! :-) The super-glossy wood floor does help too... xo

  2. Oh well I'm very much of this persuasion....love moody dark rooms...especially love moody dark exteriors...but then i think it's all about climate....not surprising that this is a melbourne home because we really love these dark colours here...everybody jokes about melbourne and our love affair with black and dark grey...but it truly suits the colours of the sky here...

Having said that, I also love white...and every colour in between!! Just to be greedy. This home is gorgeous. x

  3. I love it. I don't think it'll become mainstream, tho. at least not in its more pronounced versions. good for us who we worship the dark side :)

  5. Great inspiration, Anya. I am actually just about to paint a feature wall in Farrow & Ball's Downpipe hue which is a rather dark, velvety grey. I am very curious to see the effect as up to now I've only had white walls:-)

  6. They mix the dark and light so beautifully. A perfect place for me down to the fact that there's a picture of my favourite Ingres painting, portrait of mademoiselle Rivière, in the bathroom! x

  7. Love the bathroom, so delicate, dark colors can make a space to look very elegant.

  8. It's very striking! My home is a mix of brown, beige and white. I think that's the darkest I've gone. Except the outside is black and beige. So maybe that counts. HaHaHa Have a great day Anya.

  11. I'm not that crazy about the dark side but I do like the rooms where there was more light filtering in i.e. bedrooms and bath. I'm afraid that I'm just not that daring to go there. LOL

  12. My favorites are lights, but I love mixing the two. I love that rod iron day bed and I've seen one at Ikea just like it. Wonder if it's the same? Dark is just easier with so many kids... :) Miss you and love to you!
